Puppies / Kittens - Threat ?

Plants, pets, pests are some of the sources of biological pollutants at home.

Biological pollutants are or were living organisms. These contaminants include animal dander, saliva, pollen, cat urine, bacteria etc. Most of these pollutants are airborne and can aggravate or causes allergies in humans. Some symptoms that of allergic reactions ( that i believe most of us have experienced before) are itching, sneezing, runny nose and headaches. These are especially dangerous for asthmatics as they can cause asthma attacks.

Here's a list of potential sources of biological pollutants at home:

Unmaintained Air conditioners or humidifiers,

Damp carpets

Poorly ventilated bathrooms or kitchens

Dogs/Cats

Dogs and Cats?! This does not mean you have to abandon your kitten/ forgo your dream to own a puppy at home to be sensitive to or accomodate asthmatics.

Here are some ways you can reduce biological pollutant build up at home.

Keep your place clean and dry!

Biological contaminants tend to thrive in moist conditions. Therefore, make sure there is sufficient ventilation to dehumidify the indoors! Open up your windows, use exhaust fans (if needed) to remove moisture in your bathrooms and kitchens as they are main sources of moisture at home.

Maintain appliances that come in contact with water

Clean your aircon filters and refrigerator drip pans. Wash or change your shower curtains, they are common sources of mould growth.

Remove/Reduce Dust

Vacuum your house to remove dust or animal danders. Use washable carpets, and avoid wool blankets/comforters and use plastic mattress covers. Use hot water to kill dustmites when you wash your bedding!
